Meet the Bridesmaids
A Mighty Woman is backed by Mighty Friends
Anna Martch (Maid of Honor)SistersFitness has been a big part of our lives for years, and working out together has become one of my favorite things. More and more of Daesha’s character and personality are seen when you get her into the gym. Daesh has inspired me with her work ethic and discipline when it comes to lifting, and these characteristics that build in the gym are seen in her everyday life whether that be in her jobs, relationships, or walk with the Lord. One of my favorite things about our workout buddy system is that we perfectly balanced each other out between cardio and lifting. I was able to challenge Daesha with running, while she pushed me in lifting. This balance was the perfect opportunity for us to combine our different knowledge and abilities to encourage each other to be better. Plus, trying new things at the gym and being exhausted can make for some pretty funny moments, like when we chucked a medicine ball at each other and had to fight through fits of laughter to get all our reps in lol.
This picture is just one of my favorites because I feel like it captures our sisterly love quite well Every day after high school, as long as the weather permitted it, Daesh and I would go outside and pass the volleyball. It was my favorite part about the day, and it’s what I looked forward to all day at while at school. We would go crazy after having a super good rally filled with sacrificial dives and accurate hits and sprinting around the yard to keep the ball alive. We would always debrief about our days while passing the volleyball until it was dark. And that’s still one of my favorite ways to spend time with Daesh. This is the day that Daesha got back from her vacation with Jared and his family—the day we reunited after not seeing each other for over a month, which is the longest we have EVER been apart. It was a wonderful moment. Being apart made me appreciate our sweet friendship and the home that I find in her. It’s always one of my favorite things to pick Daesh up from the airport, and I look forward to many more times when I get to pick her up when she comes to visit from DC. :) For about 5 years Daesh and I probed our parents about going to a beach house in Florida as a family vacation. We were ecstatic when our nagging paid off. It has been my great pleasure to be Daesha’s personal shopping assistant, beauty consultant, makeup and hair artist, and fashion advisor for the last 19 years. If Daesha ever asked me for help with an outfit, I would bust into her closet like one of the obnoxious stylists from the tv shows and put together an outfit. If she ever asked me to help her shop for clothes, I would find about 40 things for her to try on. I take credit for most of her closet. This is the annual “first day of school” photo that our mom always made us take (Michaela was very enthusiastic about it as you can tell from the photo). This year was my first year of high school. Daesha and I’s friendship deepened in high school—those years were really the years that established our close relationship and foundation of trust. I had a lot of friends and acquaintances in high school, but Daesha was my absolute best friend. I loved talking about boys and sharing a room and sharing clothes—surface level gateways that lead to an incredibly meaningful and life-giving friendship. She loved me so well during this time in my life that was often very dark, and I am very grateful that she walked with me through it. |
Jessie SienkiewiczCollege RoommatesMy favorite memory with Daesha was our first official “friend date.” we went to zoo lights and we walked around and it felt like we shared everything about each other that night. it was as if we had been best friends for years. I knew right away that she would be in my life forever. the night was complete when we were given free lightbulbs, and when I locked my keys in my car.

Carlie FrankieCollege RoommatesOne of my favorite memories with Daesha is actually when I believe our friendship started. We were both on a trip to Disneyland for a school class (I know, best class ever) and had been rooming together all week. We didn’t really know each other at that point but got to know each other reeeeally well after sharing a bed together as almost strangers. We had gone on some rides together here and there, but one day our whole class decided to go on the Indiana Jones ride in Adventureland. And for SOME REASON, Daesha and I decided to sit in the front row.
There is something about these rides that really freak me out. I don’t know if it’s the robot people or if it was all the creepy spiders, but all I remember is a big boulder chasing us and Daesha and I screaming our heads off the whole time holding onto each other for dear life. Once we arrived back to what felt like safety, we just looked at each other and died laughing, and from that moment, a lifelong friendship was truly born. The time since has consisted of more memories I cherish after living together for two summers, dozens of Cold Stone, Café Rio, and coffee dates, and some of the most life-giving conversations I have ever had. I am so thankful to stand with her on her and Jared’s big day! |
Kristen CrayCCU FriendMy favorite memories with you are probably going to sound just like many of your friends' favorites... spontaneous worship with our voices, hiking Colorado mountains, eating Dairy Queen on a summer Saturday, and powerful sleepover pillow talk - yeah, sound the same as the others? Good. Because all of these happened in a single day with you, in Summer 2016. And about half of them repeated when you visited me in Kansas City a year later.
Dearest Daesha, my darling and precious friend, what a bright and positive force you've been in my life since the day we met. You reached out to me for coffee - no younger friend had ever done that before. We sat at the Village Roaster, where I fell hard for my newest lifelong girl crush. You inspire me always... you inspire me to inspire others, including you. I want to be my very best self whenever I'm around you, and not in a melancholy way - you make me laugh so hard that I usually wake up whomever is unfortunately hosting our sleepover. Super jealous of Jared for getting to marry you, and for all the sleepovers he's taking from our future together... but he's just too good for me to complete with. I couldn't be prouder of you two as a couple. Everyone calls you world-changers - MAKE IT HAPPEN! (And save some snuggle room for me now and then?) |
Nicole ScappaturaFriends of HistoryDaesha and I have too many memories. It’s hard to choose one, but that’s just how it is when you’ve loved her friendship since middle school! Some of my favorite times were when we would drive home from school together on snowy days, listen to a favorite singer/songwriter of ours, and talk about everything we possibly could. I so valued her friendship that the smallest of things became my favorite things! Another one of my favorite times is when we woke up at an ungodly hour to go Black Friday Shopping at Southland’s Mall and literally had the entire place to ourselves. That’s a girl’s dream right there.

Michaela MartchSistersDaesha has kinda been around my whole life, so we have quite a few memories. I can’t pick one that’s necessarily my favorite, but I do have one that brings a smile to my face. I was in seventh grade and Daesh was in eighth. She was cast as Belle in the school musical, and, naturally, I was cast to play her dad. The amount of laughs we shared on stage will never be forgotten not just because the concept of the younger sister being the older sister’s dad was a little strange, but because it was a great experience sharing the stage with my weenie of a sis.

Taylor CummingsFuture Sister in Lawthe first day I met you in person, when it was Jareds graduation weekend and you guys showed us around the CCU campus and in one of the rooms they had a grand piano that you would play on all the time and you played one of your worship songs for us and I was in absolute awe and could feel the power of God and your emotion and it was from then on that I was like okay this could be one heck of a sister-in-law because I have someone that I can share my passion with as well and learn a lot from!
Later in summer, when Daesha joined our family Mexico Vacation, on one of the days we all decided to visit the spa. while we were there we enjoyed all the relaxations and the powerful shower that we all went in and soon found out echoes very loudly. When we went into the steam room and later the hot tub, Daesha was very good at asking me questions and being interested in me and my life and who i am, she even asked me about Connor and that was back in the beginning stages lol. But in all seriousness all those questions she asked me truly meant a lot and showed that she cared and cares to get to know me which is awesome!! Also Daesha’s kind of a beast at spike ball, but that probably doesn’t surprise anyone. 😉 |
